Event PR: MAKEMORE Festival

The team at MAKEMORE Festival contacted us to handle a ten-week project where we would manage the event PR. The festival was in its first year and took place from 23rd August, for five days.

MAKEMORE is the festival for makers and doers. ‘Maker culture’ is a trend in the States, but not so much in the UK. At MAKEMORE’S first festival, people were invited to take part in a range of experiential activities, such as viewing art, creating it, eating food, making it and seeing live performances, as well as being able to perform.

The festival enabled people to get hands on and try out a range of new things, where before they might not have ever had the opportunity to get involved in.

Our brief for MAKEMORE was to raise awareness of the first year of the festival and boost footfall in turn. We did this through a mix of press office support, from ticket announcement releases, what’s on guides, competitions, inviting media to the event and influencer engagement.

As well as the above, we pitched features such as ‘Britain’s endangered crafts’ as the festival featured weaving, paper marbling and furniture making – all skills featured on the Heritage Crafts Association Red List of Endangered Crafts.

We pitched out the ‘makers’ that would be at the festival, such as Aardman Animations (the creators of Wallace and Gromit), Adébayo Bolaji (artist) and Felicity Cloake (a food writer), to the media.

To ensure we had journalists, bloggers and influencers, with audiences interested in family, travel, tourism, art and craft, attending the festival, we invited them along to various days across the weekend. We also attended the first day.

Our event PR resulted in some great pieces of coverage including the Evening Standard, Conde Nast Traveller, BBC and London Live to name a few.

Over 60 journalists, bloggers and influencers accepted our invitation and came along to the festival across the weekend.
